Why is my baby on neocate

Many parents come to us with questions about the taste of formulas like Neocate. Some feeding specialists and pediatricians often recommend sticking with the straight Neocate. This depends on the clinician — it often is just a matter of time for many infants to adjust to new tastes. Like the unfamiliar taste of a new vegetable, it can take up to times before they get used to the new taste of formulas like Neocate.

Some healthcare teams may suggest ways to change the taste of infant formula, but we cannot recommend this. Because parents come up with lots of questions for these transition scenarios, we have worked with a Feeding Specialist in developing helpful tips to use in these transition situations. Research shows that although children are born with predispositions for certain food preferences, the majority of food preferences are shaped by experience 1.

Children learn to accept and prefer foods which are presented repeatedly and in a positive manner. At the same time, if a food is presented in a negative context, the child is likely to dislike and reject the new food which is the most likely reason for the baby I described above not wanting the formula.

Therefore, if you present the new formula positively, even tasting it yourself and showing a pleasant response, your child is much more likely to accept and even like it. As always, if you have questions about using Neocate products, please give our Nutrition Services team a call at , Mo-Fr, ampm, ET.

Best of luck to you and your little one! Hi My 6 week old has been taking neocate for just over a week now. Generally, we hear from our families that the stools are less frequent, not more frequent, and are usually semi-formed versus watery. I do want to note that our Neocate Junior Vanilla has prebiotic fiber. If your child's diet was low in fiber before starting this formula, they may simply be adjusting to the addition of fiber.

It would be the same as an adult who suddenly increased their intake of fiberous foods like whole grains, beans, veggies, etc. If after two weeks on the formula, your child's symptoms have not normalized we would recommend contacting his doctor to discuss next steps.

Our Nutrition Services team would be happy to discuss these options with you and arrange for a sample. Please e-mail NutritionServices nutricia. Hi, My baby is 12 months old and we just started Neocate Junior vanilla flavour. Also, he poo after each feed times a day and they are very watery. Could you please tell me if this is normal or is it going to get better? Thank you. Hello Amy, I am so sorry to hear that you and your little one are struggling with the transition to Neocate!

Some feeding specialists and pediatricians often recommend sticking with the straight Neocate - it depends on the clinician - it often is just a matter of time for many infants to adjust to Neocate's taste. Just like introducing the unfamiliar taste of a new vegetable once an infant reaches solids, which research shows can take up to times before they get used to the taste and accept it, it often takes a few days for infants to adjust to Neocate.

Other clinicians, as you mentioned, may make recommendations for mixing Neocate with other formulas or ingredients. One way to transition is to use the "fading" approach. Fading is a strategy where a small amount of a new formula is mixed with something the child is used to which in this case would be Nutramigen , gradually increasing the ratio of new to old over time. For some children: the slower, the better - others may transition very quickly. Each child will have his or her own unique pace, which can range from a few days to a few weeks for a successful transition.

However, we have heard some clinicians make recommendations for substituting a small amount of an accepted fruit juice for some of the water when preparing formula, adding a small amount of something sweet not honey , adding or non-alcohol-based vanilla extract, but again we cannot recommend this practice. We hope this information is helpful! Best of luck to you and your family!

Please help. He is 16 pounds She suggested we try giving him some rice dream milk, but he refused that as well. He will not sleep without a nightly bottle feed. I keep making bottles of the Neocate and he screams and cries after taking 4 sips of it. His pediatrician tells us to keep trying it and it could take up to two weeks for him to transition to it.

Is there anything I could do to make it taste a little better for him?
